CLC Classroom Assistant

The Oshkosh Area School District Board of Education is seeking applicants for the following CLC position for the 2016-2017 school year.
Hours: 12-17 hours per week with additional time for trainings, meetings, planning time, and special events.
Reports to: Program Coordinator, Site Director, CLC Director
Classroom Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of supportive services to students enrolled in the after-school program in order to carry out the program goals.  Classroom Assistant is also responsible for implementing the daily activities of the site.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general supervision of the children in the after-school program with the support and supervision of the Classroom Lead, Site Director and CLC Director.
  • Execute pre-planned lessons, offering homework help, and providing high quality reading and/or math instruction to participating students with the aid of proper training, resources, and support.
  • Maintain the program’s philosophy and provide quality professional care in a warm and secure atmosphere with special consideration given to individual differences and needs.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough site records as necessary.
  • Responsible for helping to maintain the physical appearance of the program environment including set up, storage space, and equipment.  Site must be left in a clean and orderly condition each day.
  • Attend staff meetings and complete 15 hours of continuing education as deemed necessary by the Site Director.
  • Adheres to guidelines and procedures as defined in the After-School CARE Programs Parent Manual and the Oshkosh Area School District Policy Manual.
  • Dress appropriately and maintain a neat appearance, including complying with the dress code, along with a friendly and professional attitude.
  • Have a positive attitude, act as a positive role model, and mentor children at assigned site.
  • Must be able to work with little or no supervision and make appropriate judgment calls.
  • Must be patient, flexible, understanding, respectful, responsible, dependable, and carry a high energy and sense of creativity.
  • Mandated child abuse reporter.
  • Have a completed physical and TB test on file within 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to interact physically with children during program activities.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in an after-school setting or with elementary age children preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and remain flexible.
  • Experience working with staff and families from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Be an effective communicator with children, parents, staff, school personnel, and supervisors.  Welcome and encourage and open door communication policy with children and parents.
