CARE Program Assistant Teacher

Position is for during the 2020-2021 school year. Responsible for implementing the daily activities of the site. Must maintain a structured environment in compliance with Wisconsin State Licensing Rules and Regulations. Promote the components of health, wellness and fitness. It is the responsibility of every staff member to cultivate and maintain positive donor relationships.


-Maintain the program’s philosophy and provide quality professional care in a warm and secure atmosphere with special consideration given to individual differences and needs.
-Work closely with the Childcare Director and Assistant Childcare Director to ensure smooth operation of the program. This includes complying with the Boys & Girls Club procedures in reporting accidents/injuries/incidents and fielding any problems at the site.
-Responsible for fulfillment of program curriculum as directed by supervisory staff.
-Responsible for helping assist in providing positive direction to children, teach and encourage new skills, and ensure a safe environment for all children.
-Be an effective communicator with children, parents, staff, school personnel, and supervisors. Welcome and encourage an open door communication policy with children and parents.
-Maintain accurate site records including daily attendance reports, medical log book, medication administering and documentation, children’s records, all within state licensing rules and regulations.
-Responsible for helping to maintain the physical appearance of the program environment including set up, storage space, and equipment. Site must be left in a clean and orderly condition each day.
-Attend staff meetings and complete 15 hours of continuing education as deemed necessary by the Childcare Director.
-Adheres to guidelines and procedures as defined in the After-School CARE Programs Parent Manual and the Boys & Girls Club Policy Manual.
-Dress appropriately and maintain a neat appearance, including complying with the dress code, along with a friendly and professional attitude.
-Have a positive attitude, act as a positive role model, and mentor children at assigned site.
-Must be able to work with little or no supervision and make appropriate judgment calls.
-Must be patient, flexible, understanding, respectful, responsible, dependable, and carry a high energy and sense of creativity.
-Mandated child abuse reporter.
-Must notify the Childcare Director immediately (or within 1 business day) when: convicted of a crime, investigated by a government agency, has a substantiated governmental finding, or has a professional license denied, revoked, restricted, or otherwise limited.
-Must understand that children will become distraught, fussy, or won’t quit crying. Staff must first attempt to determine the cause of distress, do whatever possible to soothe the child, and if needed, call the director for assistance.


-2 non-credit department-approved courses in early childhood education OR currently enrolled in a department-approved education course. See Licensing Rules and Regulations Manual HFS 46 for more details.
-This position requires knowledge of school-age child development, education/training in elementary education, early childhood education, recreation, or physical education. Must work well with others, including children, other staff, parents, school personnel.
-Previous experience working with early child/elementary age children.
-Be certified in CPR/First Aid

Physical and Mental Requirements

-Have a completed physical and TB test on file within 30 days of employment
-Must be able to interact physically with children during program activities.
-Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
-Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
