Graduation and Career Specialist 

Title: Graduation and Career Specialist

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

General Work Hours: Hours will be between 8:00am and 8:00pm (working 40 hours per week).

Qualifications:

  • BS Degree is preferred but not required.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organization skills and follow-through skills.
  • Commitment to role model and promote a lifestyle of health, wellness and fitness to members and their families.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving history.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Case manage a minimum of 20 freshman to senior youth who are involved in the Be Great: Graduate and mentoring program.
  • Maintain and supervise 20 mentee relationships and act as mentor by meeting one hour every week with the mentee/student.
  • Create goals with each student every semester.
  • Check in with teachers, guidance counselors, parents, etc. to make sure the student is meeting expectations.
  • Go through grades with students weekly.
  • Recruit students for the Be Great Program
    • Presentations and tours with local middle schools
    • Attend classes, clubs, after school events, sports games, etc. to establish relationships and become known within the school
    • Attend Care Team Meetings
    • Become a resource for all students
    • Help connect students with resources that they seek
    • Invite students to career tours, college tours, and volunteer experiences.
    • Invite students to participate at the Boys & Girls Club.
  • Make connections within the school.
    • Attend necessary staff meetings
    • Attend Care Team Meetings
    • Connect to a Club/after school committee
    • Meet teachers, administrators, janitors, etc.
  • Have accountability meetings with all youth to make sure they are meeting their goals.
  • Connect youth to workforce readiness programming at the Club or in the community and help them have accountability and break down barriers to help them be successful.
  • Make sure all students are on track to graduate, and if not, helping them do the work to get there.
  • Help youth develop life skills.
  • Help youth make a post high school plan.
  • Ensures that youth growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate based on the measurable outcomes of Be Great: Graduate program for those youth still in high school.
  • Report on measurable outcomes per grant requirements using Be Great Graduate software.
  • In collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club Staff, maintain cooperative working partnerships with local area school district, higher education institutions, and other community partners to enhance the program
  • Take the lead role in the following programs to be run at Club Teen Center and or at school over lunch time as appropriate: Boys 2 Men, Money Matters, EAA Week, Professional Workshop, Diplomas 2 Degrees, Skills to Pay the Bills, Teen 2 Work programming, post-secondary visits to colleges
  • Work collaboratively with Director of Teen Services to aid in overall Teen program
  • Maintains efficient and effective record keeping procedures
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, volunteers, peers, and the community
    • Communicate with parents on monthly basis
    • Once a week 1:1 meetings with all students
    • Communication with teachers of students as needed
  • Collaborates with program team to enhance the program environment
  • Models professional and ethical standards
  • Meets professional obligations, paperwork, and deadlines through efficient, organized work habits
  • Attends all required staff meetings at school and Boys & Girls Club.
  • Mandated child abuse reporter.

 

 

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Must be able to think clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to function in a loud environment with high energy interacting with multiple-age members.
