Great Explorers 5-6 year olds

Summer Program for Great Explorers (5-6 year olds)

Program Overview

2021 summer hours begin on Monday, June 7th and end on Friday, August 20th. Great Explorers is a summer-time program for Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh members who are 5 or 6 years old and have completed Kindergarten. The program is located in the building attached to the Boys & Girls Club. It is a licensed program which follows additional rules and regulations besides those in place at the Boys & Girls Club.

The Great Explorers have 4 classrooms with a certified lead teacher in each room. Each classroom will have 15 children with 1 teacher.

While in the Great Explorers program at the Boys & Girls Club, your child will participate in a variety of scheduled lessons and activities. Our short, interactive lessons focus on reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. The daily activities include art and technology, as well as time out on the playground and in the gym.

Meals are included. Breakfast is served between 8:15 – 8:30 a.m., lunch is served between 11:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m., and snack is served between 2:15 – 2:30 p.m.

Payment is due the Friday prior to the following week in order for your child to participate.

County assistance is accepted for children 5-6 years old. If you are interested in acquiring assistance, please contact your caseworker. If you are interested, please ask the front desk for paperwork. Scholarship assistance will be based on a sliding scale income but everyone will be expected to pay according to their income level.

Payment Options

Forms of payment include: credit card, check, cash, and automatic payments from your bank account and can be made by phone or at our Radford Center front desk.

Expectations

The expectations of the program will be clearly taught and modeled to each Club member.

Children are also expected to participate fully in each program and behave according to our Club rules found in our Parent Handbook. Children who choose not to follow these expectations will not be able to participate in our summer program

What if the program is full?

If you sign up for Great Explorers, but the classrooms have already reached their size limit, your child will be placed on a waiting list. We will serve children on a first come, first served basis. This is why it is important to register as soon as possible to have your best chance of securing a spot for your child.

Field Trips

One of the best parts of our program is our weekly adventures around the Fox Valley. We love to explore and enjoy all the fun trips that this area has available to us. Trips include area waterparks, zoos, and attractions like Bay Beach. Our normal field trip hours are 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

If your child chooses not to attend a field trip, there will be a teacher staying back in the classroom. All staff are required to attend swimming field trips due to child to staff ratios. If you do not want your child to attend swimming trips, they will have to be picked up by the time the bus leaves.

Camp Radford

5-6 year olds will have the opportunity to visit Camp Radford this summer.

Inside the Classroom

While at the Boys & Girls Club, your child will be participating in a variety of scheduled lessons and activities. Our short, interactive lessons will focus on reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. The daily activities will include art and technology, as well as time out on the playground and in the gym. The program uses a curriculum that allows our Club members to learn while having fun!
