We are halfway through the school year and we’re grateful to have many ways to stay healthy and active as we head into the bitter cold months of winter! Club members continue to enjoy their time in the gym and learn new skills by participating in sports leagues. They’ve also expanded their taste pallet with our healthy food program, Healthy Habits, where club members make and try new foods and food groups.
Our Radford program members (K-2 grade) spend at least 30 minutes per day in the gym playing active games such as dodgeball, line tag, mat ball, Fire and Ice Freeze Tag and their favorite, Fastest Tag in the West. They also spend time climbing the rock wall, using our gym scooters,
Quest Program members (3-6 grade) come into the gym three times per week for 45 minutes at a time. They get to try their hands at mat ball, dodgeball, mushroom ball, ultimate football, floor hockey, lightning, pickleball, handball, tchoukball and speedball. Quest club members also enjoy climbing on the rock wall, riding the gym scooters and various tag games as well.
Teen Program Members (7-12 grade) have open-gym for an hour each day. They really love sports and competition! We have a ton of fun playing basketball, football, pickleball, volleyball and floor hockey.
For all club members, time in the gym gives them an opportunity to work on their conflict resolution skills, teamwork and cooperation, physical fitness and their sharing skills.
Starting at the New Year, we renewed our partnership with the YMCA to be a part of the 5th-6th grade boys’ basketball league on Saturday mornings. We are excited to have eight of our Quest members join the team! During practice and games, members work on basketball skills such as shooting, passing, dribbling, defense, and rebounding. This last Saturday, the team notched their first victory with a 34-6 win! We’re looking forward to a great rest of the season!
