The Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh is in full swing at our new Omro site! We began the program in the Fall of 2021 and we’re excited to have 50 students that attend our after-school program and/or non-school program.
Like most youth, these students enjoy any and all programs that have to do with food! One of their favorite programs was our Junior Master Chef and Journey Around the World programs. They were able to put their culinary skills to the test and try to create tasty treats. When doing Journey Around the World, they are able to try a variety of foods that originate from different countries, learn about varying environments, make games, learn musical instruments and much more.
Other programs kids got to participate in this year were art, STEM, educational games, astronomy, Triple Play, Cooking with Books and much more! Every Wednesday is an early release day in Omro. On these Wednesdays, we do a themed day. Youth get very excited about what the US National day is or our chosen theme for that day. We have celebrated National Ice Cream Cone Day, Under the Sea, March Madness, Kindness Day, Camping Day and much more.
While we are finishing out the school year, we are busy planning for summer! We plan to serve 48 youth, in first through sixth grade, daily during our new Omro summer program. We will be providing a wraparound program during the district’s summer school at Omro Elementary School. Once summer school is completed, we will be moving over to the Omro Area Community Center for the second half of the program. This is a great partnership, and we are excited to get more involved with the City of Omro. We have weekly field trips planned, along with weekly trips within the Omro community. We will be collaborating with the Omro Public Library to do a weekly Library Club that will allow our youth to keep their love of literacy going throughout the summer and give them the opportunity to participate in events that are taking place within the library. We are in discussion to take part in a program called Tour of Omro, where youth will be able to visit different organizations and businesses in Omro. We’re extra excited for this, as it will give kids the chance to explore the opportunities that are there for them throughout their community!
We’re looking forward to seeing many of our after-school kids this summer and meeting some new faces! Learn more about our upcoming summer program and register here.
