Etiquette & Afternoon Tea Program at the Boys & Girls Club Empowers Girls

The Etiquette, Character & Afternoon Tea program is in its ninth year at the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh. The program is designed especially for young ladies and this year focuses on girls ages 6-10. It encourages them to be proud of the unique people they are and helps them develop positive character and leadership skills.

Girls in the program attend 6 classes taught by friends of the Club that focus on building character and healthy lifestyles. The classes cover a variety of topics including manners, self-esteem, healthy eating and exercise, how to treat yourself and others with respect and much more.

The Afternoon Tea, presented by Kimberly-Clark Foundation, will be the finale celebration to the program. The Tea will take place this year on Tuesday, August 13th at the Oshkosh Country Club. This event brings together the girls and local women to sip tea, enjoy a light lunch (soup, finger sandwiches and petit fours), chat and celebrate the girls’ completion of the classes. It is a great opportunity for the community to see the difference the Club makes in the lives of youth.

This year, the event will feature a short program with inspiring words from lead speaker Becky Curran, sponsored by Nicolet Bank and Silver Star Brands. Becky is the Disability Equality Index Director at Disability:IN and is passionate about finding ways to change how little people, and all people with disabilities, are perceived in the media and ultimately in society. Becky believes the biggest disability anyone must overcome in life is the voice in their own mind, and that we all have struggles in life, it’s how we deal with those struggles and treat others that makes the difference.
