Boys & Girls Club Board Member and Employee Win BGCA Midwest Region Awards

The Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh is proud to announce that a board member as well as a Club employee were each recognized by Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA) at BGCA’s Midwest Leadership Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana earlier this October.

Sue Ackerman, a longtime board member and former Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh Board President, was presented with Boys and Girls Club of America’s Midwest Heart of the Region Award which is given to one board member in the region each year who shows extraordinary service to their Club. Sue’s commitment to the Club reaches far beyond participating at monthly Board meetings. She has a true passion for seeing youth succeed and is a regular face at Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh. She is someone who is not involved in just one area at the Club, but rolls up her sleeves and gets involved wherever and however she is needed.

Tracy Ogden, Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh’s Director of Advancement, was presented with the Boys and Girls Club of America’s Midwest Region Tom Burt Pacesetter Award. This award is presented annually to a non-CEO Club employee who has supervisory responsibilities and who by words and deeds motivates, guides and supports the professional and personal development of other professionals. Tracy has been with Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh for over nine years and has done an amazing job growing the Club’s marketing, events, donor relationships and forwarding Club initiatives.

“In Oshkosh, we are fortunate to have strong leadership through our board and also talented staff members,” said Board President, Matt Jameson. “Both of these recognitions from the Boys & Girls Club of America show that we have caring and dedicated people positively impacting our Club members and their families every day.”

The Boys & Girls Club of America holds its annual Midwest Region Leadership Conference for local Boys & Girls Club Board members and professionals who work at Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the Midwest region. States in the region include: Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

The annual conference is an opportunity for board leaders and Club professionals to network and attend workshops. The conference also provides a platform for local Club professionals and board members to receive recognition at a national level.

The Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh currently serves over 4,000 youth through membership and community outreach. While the Club only charges an annual membership fee of $25, the Club invests more than $850 in each member. Scholarships are available for families who cannot afford the membership fee.

“As an organization we are proud to be serving Oshkosh and the children who need us most,” said Dosogne. “We plan to continue playing an integral role in our community by providing young people with positive relationships with caring adult professionals and fun, age-appropriate, well-rounded programming.”
