OSHKOSH, WI — Summer is covered… in sunscreen. The Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh (BGCO) announced today that its community-wide sunscreen donation drive, Operation: Sunscreen, is officially a success. Oshkosh-area residents, families and businesses answered the call, over the last month donating more than 200 bottles of sunscreen and additional gifts to help keep Club kids safe during summer outdoor activities.

Operation: Sunscreen launched earlier this year to ensure that every child at the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh could safely enjoy an active, healthy and memorable summer outdoors without the worry of sunburn or long-term skin damage. Between field games, playground time, sports, Camp Radford nature walks, and other summer day trips around the region, the Club goes through approximately 20 to 30 bottles of sunscreen every week.

Thanks to the community’s generosity and the support of campaign partners Discover Oshkosh and Westhaven Golf Club, BGCO now has a fresh supply that will last more than 10 weeks — enough to keep Club kids protected through a full, rich summer of activities, both at the Club and out in the community.

“We are so grateful to this community for answering the call,” said Alex Hummel, Director of Advancement at Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh. “This rapid campaign’s success means our Club members can spend the summer outside, playing and exploring without us worrying about running out of sun protection. Thank you to every family, neighbor, service group and local business who donated — you’re helping our kids build friendships and make memories safely, all summer long.”

The Club welcomes ongoing donations to keep the supply stocked. Community members can drop off new, unused bottles of SPF 30 or higher spray sunscreen (broad spectrum preferred) during normal hours at the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh, 501 E. Parkway Ave., Oshkosh — Door 8 at the Verve Administrative Center.
