Sports and recreation play a powerful role in the lives of young people, and at the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh, they are an essential part of how we help members grow into confident and capable individuals. In 2025, 450 members participated in a variety of sports programs that supported not only physical development but also personal growth and character building.
Through consistent practice, teamwork and healthy competition, Club members learn valuable life skills that extend far beyond the court or field. Sports provide opportunities for young people to build confidence, develop discipline and discover the importance of perseverance. They also encourage leadership, respect for others and the ability to work toward shared goals. These lessons stay with our members long after the season ends and carry into the classroom, their families and the broader community.
As part of the BGCA Champions Campaign, we are proud to highlight how sports at the Club are about more than winning games. They are about creating safe, supportive environments where youth can challenge themselves, learn from setbacks and celebrate achievements together. Each practice and game is another step in shaping champions both on and off the field.
We are also excited to welcome Sam Schommer as our new Director of Athletics. Sam brings energy and a strong commitment to youth development, and he will play a key role in strengthening and expanding our sports programs. Families and community members with questions about athletics at the Club are encouraged to contact him at sams@bgcosh.org.
Through continued investment in sports and recreation, the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh remains committed to helping young people reach their full potential and build the skills they need to succeed today and in the future.
