Building Bright Futures: Inside Our Student Success Center

At the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh, we believe that every teen deserves the support, guidance, and resources needed to succeed both in school and beyond. That vision is what inspired our Director of Teen Services & Workforce Readiness, Alyssa Martinez, to launch the Student Success Center within our Teen Center: a dedicated space designed to help youth strengthen their academic performance while planning for a successful future.

The Student Success Center offers personalized, one-on-one support tailored to each teen’s goals. Through a simple QR code or online form, teens and their families can easily schedule time to meet with staff and request help in specific areas. Whether a member needs assistance with homework, is exploring career options, or preparing for life after high school, the Center provides a welcoming and supportive environment to take those next steps.

Student Success Center Offerings

One of the cornerstone offerings is our College & Career Consultations. During these sessions, teens and families meet directly with Alyssa to talk through future plans and opportunities. From job searches and mock interviews to college applications, FAFSA support, trade school exploration, and even military pathways, these conversations are designed to open doors and build confidence. Teens also gain insight into local workforce trends, helping them better understand the opportunities available right here in our community. Participation is always youth-driven—ensuring that teens feel empowered and ready to engage in planning their future.

In addition to future planning, the Student Success Center also provides tutoring and homework help during regular Club hours. Teens can sign up for 30-minute sessions with a staff member who will help them work through assignments, build study habits, and stay on track academically. While students bring their own school materials, the Club offers basic supplies to support projects and assignments, ensuring that no barrier stands in the way of learning.

Connecting Teens to Real-World Opportunities

What makes the Student Success Center especially impactful is how it connects to the broader Teen Center experience. This work is reinforced through our workforce development programs, where members participate in real-world learning opportunities like visits to local businesses—including Old Navy, Ross Dress for Less, BMO, and Fortifi Bank—and hands-on career exploration through programs like Career Launch. Additionally, teens can access deeper, ongoing support through our Be GREAT: Graduate program, which provides in-school mentoring and academic guidance at Oshkosh North and West High Schools and Vel Phillips Middle School.

Together, these programs create a comprehensive support system that meets teens where they are and helps guide them toward where they want to go.
