For many families, getting a child from school to an after-school program can be a challenge. Work schedules, transportation limitations and other family responsibilities can make it difficult for youth to participate in programs, even when they would benefit from being part of them.
That’s why the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh provides or arranges transportation from several local schools to the Club each afternoon during the school year.
Our transportation program is made possible in part through our partnership with the Oshkosh Area School District, which helps connect youth to the Club after the school day ends. Some Club members ride buses provided through Kobussen Buses and the OASD, while others utilize Club-arranged transportation. Together, these partnerships help us reach more youth and make participation in after-school programming possible for more families.
During the 2025–26 school year, an average of 183 Club members were transported from local schools to the Club each day. Each ride represents an opportunity for a young person to spend their afternoon in a safe, supportive environment surrounded by caring adults and peers.
When members arrive at the Club, they get much more than a place to spend time until the end of the workday. They have opportunities to learn, grow, build relationships and discover new interests.
Our after-school programs provide academic support through homework help and enrichment activities, opportunities to explore STEM and other interests, sports and recreation that encourage healthy lifestyles, and experiences that build character, confidence and leadership skills. Members also have access to healthy meals and snacks, caring adults and a welcoming environment where they can build friendships and feel a sense of belonging.
For many youth, the Club becomes an important part of their daily routine, a place where they know they are welcomed, supported and encouraged to be their best.
We know that youth can’t benefit from programs they can’t get to. For a working parent or caregiver, having transportation from school can be the difference between a young person being able to participate in the Club and missing out altogether.
By providing transportation, we help make our programs more accessible to families and create opportunities for more youth to experience everything the Club has to offer. It’s one more way we work to ensure that transportation doesn’t stand between a young person and a place where they can learn, grow and belong.
For the 2026–27 school year, the Club will provide or arrange transportation from Emmeline Cook, Oaklawn, Read, Menominee, Tipler, Vel Phillips, Oshkosh North and Oshkosh West. Transportation is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Youth must have a yearly Club membership and be enrolled in an after-school program, and the transportation fee is $10 per month. Transportation is provided from school to the Club; transportation home is not provided.
Because sometimes, removing a barrier starts with simply making sure a young person has a way to get here.
