Members Staying Active

We have back some Club members during summer as we spring into our new normal while still closely following regulations to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the Club is not able to participate in any sports leagues this Spring or Summer. We hope our Club members can resume being a part of our athletics like Little Brewers baseball, girls’ volleyball, flag football and our traveling basketball team very soon. Until then, we have some other activities going on at the Club for our members to stay active.

As many of you know, summer will look different  in each program area, but we are continuing to find ways to keep the kids engaged and having fun. Club members will get physical activity time in the gym and outside, as well as participate in Healthy Habits, Triple Play, STEM activities, art, reading, STRIDE online learning, along with other fun activities. This summer, you will find Ameer and myself out on the field and playground running a variety of fun and high energy games and challenges with members.

This past week on the field we created and completed obstacle courses. We designed an obstacle course for everyone to do, which consisted of hula hooping, jumping rope, sprinting, and high knees with a fitness ladder. Once everyone completed the obstacle course, the groups were divided into teams to create their own obstacle course. They were given jump ropes, hula hoops, fitness ladders, cones, basketballs, footballs and chalk to add any other obstacles to the course. Our Club members were able to collaborate as a team to display their creativity and physical abilities.

Next week, Club members will be participating in drills and skill building activities for soccer and basketball. They will practice dribbling, passing, kicking and defensive drills. During the Club members’ second time on the field, they will put their new skills to the test and compete in a game against each other. Team sports can teach a lot to members like working together and being supportive of each other.

We are happy to have members back in our building and have a full summer planned. Stay tuned to see what other activities our Club members are participating in to continue practicing healthy habits!

Thank you to our partner Anthem for sponsoring Healthy Habits & Triple Play programming at the Club!
