Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh Graduation and Career Coordinator Placed at North High School

New this school year, the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh and the Oshkosh Area School District have placed the Club’s Graduation and Career Coordinator, Jed Carlson, at Oshkosh North High School. He will be meeting with students to work on career exploration, help them stay on track to graduate and make post-high school decisions. He will also work with the students on day-to-day tasks like homework, good study habits, and the importance of sleep and nutrition.

Jed’s time will be split between the school and the Club 80/20, respectively. He will meet with students at North High School Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays throughout the school day. Tuesdays and Fridays, Jed will spend the second half of the day at North High School and spend evenings at the Boys & Girls Club engaging teen youth in Club programs.

“This is a new experience for the Club to have a representative directly in a school and we are excited to be reaching youth in this setting without any transportation barriers.” explained Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh CEO Marc Dosogne. “This will allow the Club to provide important services to some of our members on a more consistent basis. It will also create even stronger communication and cooperation between the school and the Club in regards to services that are provided. Both the Club and Oshkosh Area School District are happy to have such a strong partnership and are excited for the opportunities this position will create for students/Club members.”

Please note, the shift in Jed’s position necessitated a change in responsibility for the facilitation of the Drivers Education course held at the Club. The program is now being run by Professional Youth Developer, Adam Cummings (adamc@bgcosh.org). Adam also works at the Club’s Radford Front Desk in the summertime and at an After School Care site during the school year.

Jed also formerly worked with recent high school graduates on making the transition from high school to life after high school. This responsibility has been transferred to Be Great Graduate and Post High School Graduation Coordinator, Dezaree Rich (dezareer@bgcosh.org) who also worked at the Club this past summer.
