Implementing Academics in a Fun and Interesting Way

April 28, 2021

A big part of our programming here at the Boys & Girls Club is making sure that we are implementing academic activities for our members in a fun and interesting way.

One way we implement academic learning is by using STRIDE Academy. STRIDE is a web-based learning program that incorporates math, reading and science into a fun gaming environment. The program is available for Club members in 1st-8th grade.  Members can access the program at the Club, school or home at stridestart.com. Our members are required to answer 50 correct questions a week on our STRIDE Academy website. For each question answered correctly members receive online based coins that they can then use to buy real life prizes from stores like Five Below. Parents can help our members with their STRIDE accounts by visiting the stridestart.com website and playing along with their child and encouraging them to set new personal goals.

Another way we implement academic learning recently is setting weekly learning themes into our after-school program. Each week members will be participating in activities that are based around, art, reading/spelling, math, STEM and social emotional learning. So far, we have implemented a week revolved around space activities and a week revolved around environmental activities for earth week. Keep an eye out on our social media pages for some great pictures of our members doing these activities.
