Title:                               Communications & Special Events Intern

Reports to:                    Director of Development 

              

Hours: 6-10 hours per week (can be flexible to fit student’s schedule). Remote work flexibility.  For academic credit (must be approved by academic advisor). Commitment is a full academic semester.  Potential for pay after 120 days. 

Assists the Marketing and Development team with special events, including our WineFeast fundraiser and supports the marketing and donor development efforts for the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh.

Qualifications

  •  Enrolled in an accredited college or university in Marketing, Journalism, Communications or a related field
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills, as well as excellent follow-through skills.
  • Successfully prioritizes multiple marketing projects
  • Must be able to work on their own and take initiative
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with key Club staff and volunteers
  • Familiarity with Microsoft products, especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in WordPress, Canva, Hootsuite, and Adobe Suite is a plus.
  • Ability to interact professionally with outside agencies and vendors.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record

Position Responsibilities

Work closely with the Director of Marketing & Communications and Development staff to market special events and the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh as a whole to the community in a way that meets the objectives of the organization.

Must be able to help at events including being present on October 26, 2023, for the Youth of the Year Dinner and April 27, 2024, for Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year, WineFeast.

Work closely with key Club staff to implement a variety of effective and relevant Social Media strategies –i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, etc.

Assist with maintaining the donor database.

Write blogs, press releases, newsletter articles, copy for events, etc. to promote public awareness of the Club in the community.

Must be willing to make calls to potential donors, vendors, and volunteers as needed in support of events.

Assist with keeping Club’s public website up to date, through the WordPress content management system, by updating photos, and copy, and updating the website event calendar as needed.

Design flyers, brochures, ads, web graphics, and other smaller projects in-house using Adobe InDesign or Canva.

Assist with updates the Club’s e-blast service, Constant Contact: customizing templates and designing, drafting, and sending parent, event and other emails as needed and maintaining contact lists.

Assist with the Club’s text messaging service, Remind, including the promotion of the service to parents, teens, volunteers and staff, composing and scheduling messages, and importing contacts. 

Have the flexibility to assist with other duties as assigned by the Marketing & Communications Director and Development staff.

Maintains confidentiality in an appropriate manner.

Mandated child abuse reporter

Promote the components of health, wellness and fitness to achieve the goals of the organization.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Must be able to sit for long periods and work on a keyboard.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to think clearly and concisely.

Must be able to go up and down stairs.
