Alex Hummel joined the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh team as Director of Advancement in 2026. He leads fundraising, public relations and community engagement efforts that support the organization’s mission to empower local youth. In this role, he works with donors, partners and community leaders to expand resources and opportunities for young people across the Oshkosh area.
Alex brings more than two decades of experience in journalism, higher education leadership and strategic communications. He spent much of his career at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, including senior leadership roles in the Office of the Chancellor, where he served as Chief of Staff and Executive Director for External Relations and Communications, helping advance strategic initiatives and strengthen partnerships with alumni, donors, community, government and industry leaders. He also previously led communications strategy for the Universities of Wisconsin as Associate Vice President for Communications.
Earlier, he spent more than a decade as an award-winning journalist with the Oshkosh Northwestern, covering local government and public affairs and later serving as an editorial page and community conversation editor. His early career also included community outreach and prevention education work with Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and a Master’s of Public Administration from UW-Oshkosh. He and his wife have long been supporters of Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh.
