Summer Sports and Gym Activities Get Members Moving!

July 8, 2021

Summer is here and our members are staying active by taking part in summer sports and gym time!

Little Brewers is back in action after being canceled last year due to COVID-19. This longtime coed program (for ages 7-9 years old) gives youth the chance to try their hand at baseball and learn the skills involved in a fun, team-oriented environment. Those signed up will learn the skills to play each position and get the opportunity to play other area Boys & Girls Clubs.

Radford and Quest members get the opportunity again this summer to go to the NFL Alumni Association’s flag football camp. The NFL Alumni Association hosts flag football camps throughout the country with former NFL players who coach the campers, a truly unique experience. We’re excited for our members to learn the sport of football, gain mentorship and get a chance to interact with former Green Bay Packers!

New this summer in partnership with the downtown YMCA, teens get to spend two days per week using the Y’s fitness equipment, pool, bikes and everything the Y has to offer.

We can’t forget one of the best parts of summer, heading to camp. All members get to spend time at the Club’s Camp Radford learning sports like archery, going hiking and participating in a variety of outdoor games.

It’s important to teach youth ways to live a healthy and active lifestyle indoors as well, which is why we continue getting our youth into the gym for at least 30 minutes each day. These times are an opportunity for members to learn new games and sports. Some of their favorites this summer have been capture the flag, dodgeball, floor hockey and basketball.

Not only do our activities keep members moving, but many times they give them the chance to work on their conflict resolution and teamwork skills.

We have so much more to look forward to for the remaining weeks of summer. Make sure to check out our Facebook page for updates and photos!
