Summer is almost here, and our Club is extremely excited to kick off another year of summer programming! We are gearing up for another unforgettable season filled with laughter, learning, and limitless possibilities. But before we dive headfirst into this summer’s adventures, let’s take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we embarked on last year.
During the summer of 2023, our Club had the privilege of partnering with both the Oshkosh Area School District and the School District of Omro to provide a comprehensive support system addressing the academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs of youth in Winnebago County. This collaboration was made possible through a two-year grant awarded under the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act of 2021’s ESSER III Summer School Programs, following a competitive granting process that selected 48 out of 66 applications, including both districts. These partnerships allowed us to have a greater, everlasting impact on youth.
Thanks to the support of this grant, last summer was nothing short of extraordinary. In partnership with the Oshkosh Area School District, we provided summer programming to 2,726 Oshkosh youth. Nearly 2,300 students attended summer school classes at Oshkosh Schools, with 223 then transported to our Club to participate in additional programs. In total, our Club served 434 youth at our Oshkosh location. Meanwhile, the School District of Omro served 264 students through their summer classes, with 44 of them engaging in Club programming at our Omro site. These members engaged in a variety of activities while attending, including educational programs, field trips, mental health support, and received healthy meals and snacks. Attached to this post, you’ll find a detailed report highlighting the impact of last summer’s programming.
Looking forward, we’re thrilled to announce that this summer will offer even more educational and exciting opportunities for youth. With the second year of support through the ARPA ESSER III grant opportunity, we will continue offering high-quality programming that enriches the lives of our youth and strengthens our community. From exciting field trips to hands-on learning experiences, this summer promises to be bigger, better, and more impactful than ever before.
We’re also excited to share that the Oshkosh Area School District will be conducting summer school classes at the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh during the summer of 2024. Available to all elementary and middle school students in our summer program, these classes will adhere to appropriate standards and requirements. Following the academic sessions, students will seamlessly transition to our Club for additional youth development programming.
